Our dedicated team of therapists work together to provide holistic support for your child.

AbleKids has been providing therapy support to children in Geraldton since 2016

From the humble beginning of just one therapist working out of the back of her car, AbleKids has now developed into an interdisciplinary service that supports children and young people in both Geraldton and the Midwest region of Western Australia. AbleKids has consistently grown to be able to provide a holistic service that includes Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy, Psychology and Dietetics.

We aim to work collaboratively with clients and their families

Our goal is to provide a service that can support all their therapy needs. We offer holistic care that is focused on enabling participation and based on the client’s own goals.

We provide flexible service delivery methods

We can support clients and their families in our well-resourced clinic setting, provide services at school and day care centres and other community venues. AbleKids also embraces technology and provide Telehealth Services to clients including those in remote areas.

Prue Matthews

Director/ Senior Occupational Therapist

Prue brings over two decades of experience to her role as a Senior Occupational Therapist.

With a deep commitment to client-centered, occupation-focused support for children and their families, Prue's extensive clinical background spans diverse presentations among children and young adults.

She is especially passionate about evidence-based early intervention therapy for children with complex medical and occupational needs.

Prue's expertise includes the assessment and prescription of assistive technology, goal-focused individual and group interventions, and collaborative work with clients and their teams to enhance participation.

Prue also actively supports undergraduate student placements at AbleKids and has previously served as a lecturer at WA Centre for Rural Health.

Outside work, Prue is very busy with her family and enjoys spending time exploring the beautiful natural environment around the Midwest region of WA and being actively involved in team sports.

  • Emily-Jane Whitbourn

    Emily-Jane Whitbourn

    Lead Speech Pathologist

    Emily-Jane is originally from Mildura and has lived in our north-west before moving to Geraldton in 2023. She has a Bachelor of Speech Pathology from Flinders University of South Australia and has worked in paediatric speech therapy for 3 years. She is a knowledgeable Speech Therapist who has experience with swallowing difficulties, alternative communication devices and literacy. In her personal time, she enjoys fishing and boating on our beautiful ocean.

  • Addie Robinson

    Speech Pathologist - Telehealth

    Addie is originally from Mildura and moved to Geraldton in 2021. She completed a degree in Health Sciences with a Masters in Speech Pathology from La Trobe University in 2017.

    She is an experienced speech therapist, with a varied caseload including literacy, language, speech sounds, fluency, and social skills.

    Addie has been providing speech therapy via telehealth services but has recently gone on maternity leave.

  • Kristine Howard - Speech Pathologist

    Kristine Howard

    Speech Pathologist - Telehealth

    Kristine is a dedicated telehealth speech pathologist based in Perth, proudly serving clients across Western Australia. She graduated from Edith Cowan University in 2024 and joined the Ablekids team in 2025, bringing with her a strong professional background in training and management.

    Kristine is a passionate and driven clinician, with particular interests in aphasia, dysphagia management, and early intervention. Her commitment to client care and her collaborative approach have made her a valuable member of our team. Each term, Kristine travels to Geraldton to meet with her clients face-to-face, ensuring continuity of care and building strong therapeutic relationships.

    Outside of work, Kristine enjoys spending quality time with her young children and family.

  • Kate Soong - Telehealth Speech Pathologist

    Kate Soong

    Telehealth Speech Pathologist

    Kate Soong is a telehealth speech pathologist, based in Perth. She graduated from Curtin University in 2009 and has worked in a variety of paediatric settings since then, including Geraldton where she lived and worked for 8 years. 

     

    Kate is a very experienced clinician who particularly loves working collaboratively with families and schools to help her client's reach their goals. Kate has a wealth of knowledge and experience working with the real littlies with speech and language delays as well as children with Autism. 

     

    When Kate's not working, she's busy spending time with her husband and 3 young boys (including identical twins!). 

  • Lily Salter

    Lily Salter

    Lead Occupational Therapist

    Lily is a highly experienced Occupational Therapist who has worked across Australia and the UK, bringing a wealth of knowledge and versatility to her practice. Her diverse background includes roles as a Senior Neuro OT, as well as experience in paediatrics, and adults in acute and community settings.

    In 2024, Lily spent time in Geraldton on a locum placement and quickly fell in love with the community and coastal lifestyle. We're thrilled to welcome her back as a permanent member of our team, where she continues to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to clients of all ages.

  • Sarah Hart

    Occupational Therapist

    Sarah is originally from Perth and moved to Geraldton in 2021. She completed a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from Curtin University in 2020. She has an interest in emotional regulation and challenging behaviours.

    Outside of work Sarah likes to enjoy the sunshine and go for walks on the beach with her two very energetic dogs!

    Sarah is currently on maternity leave.

  • Clarissa Jordan - Occupational Therapist

    Clarissa graduated from a Bachelor of Science (Occupational Therapy) degree in 2022 with honours and worked in Perth until July 2024 when she relocated to Geraldton and joined AbleKids. She is interested in emotional regulation, sensory processing and social skills. Clarissa enjoys collaborating with families and schools to best support clients in achieving their goals. Outside of work, Clarissa enjoys spending her time at the beach, doing yoga and reading. 

  • Karen Bradford - Psychologist

    Karen Bradford

    Psychologist

    In the spirit of new adventure, Karen and her twin sons moved to Geraldton from South Africa in February 2024.  She had been practicing as a psychologist for the past 17 years and feels privileged to be able to connect with people on a deeper level through her work. Karen provides evidence-based therapy for adults, adolescents, children and families, addressing a wide range of mental health concerns, When Karen is not at work, she spends her time watching crime documentaries, and enjoying the beautiful sunsets from the beaches in Geraldton. 

  • Suzanne Bateman - Occupational Therapist

    Occupational Therapist

    Suzanne trained as an occupational therapist in Ireland and moved to Australia in January 2024. She is a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapist, experienced in assessing individual needs, creating collaborative goals, and executing evidence-based interventions to delivering patient-centered care and innovative therapeutic solutions. She enjoys working closely with families and schools to reach functional goals. Suzanne enjoys spending her time outside work travelling, playing sports and swimming in the sea.

  • Gabby King - Occupational Therapist

    Occupational Therapist

    Originally from the Wheatbelt, Gabby brings valuable experience—from hospital settings to community and international roles—and, since relocating to Geraldton, has seamlessly integrated into our team with a particular interest in paediatrics.

    Outside of work, she plays football locally and enjoys catching up with friends over coffee.

  • Donna Iaria - Therapy Assistant

    Lead Allied Health Assistant

    Donna is an experienced and compassionate Allied Health Assistant, dedicated to providing quality therapy programs. With a strong foundation in the allied health field, Donna works closely with professionals to assist in delivering high-quality therapeutic services to her clients.

    Donna brings a kind and empathetic approach to her work, striving to make each session meaningful and empowering.

    When Donna is not at work, she spends her time enjoying family time, coffee dates and camping with friends

  • Amity Francis - Allied Health Assistant

    Allied Health Assistant

    Amity brings valuable experience in disability support, grounded in her hands-on role as a support worker. Through her work, she has cultivated a strong understanding of the unique needs, abilities, and aspirations of individuals living with disabilities.

    Driven by a genuine desire to make a difference, Amity approaches each challenge with empathy and a commitment to person-centered care. Her goal is to empower clients and enhance their quality of life through thoughtful, compassionate support.

    Outside of her professional life, Amity enjoys exploring new places and cherishing time with friends, finding balance and inspiration in her personal adventures.

  • Lena Scarry

    Allied Health Assistant

    Lena is originally from Wales; she has a background in art and photography and is an amazing new addition to the AbleKids team. She brings a unique blend of artistic talent, communication skills and passion for improving the lives of others.

    Lena loves camping with friends, spending time on the beach with her dog, and sports. 

  • Holly Batten

    Allied Health Assistant

    Holly brings a strong background in disability support. With hands-on experience as a support worker, she has developed a deep understanding of the needs and strengths of individuals living with disabilities.

    Passionate about making a positive impact, Holly is eager to take on new challenges and contribute to the wellbeing of clients through compassionate, person-centered care. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time at the beach, and out at the farm soaking up the sun and recharging in nature. 

  • Tamlyn Carstens - Dietitian

    Tamlyn Carstens

    Dietitian

    Tamlyn is a dietitian and nutritionist with a Bachelor of Food and Nutrition Science and a Master of Dietetics from Curtin University. She moved from Perth to Geraldton in February 2025, and is originally from Newcastle, NSW. She is contracting to AbleKids from Midwest Nutrition.

    While Tamlyn enjoys working with clients from across the lifespan, she is particularly passionate about working with kids and families to take the stress out of food and mealtimes. When she's not at work, Tamlyn can usually be found swimming at the beach or catching up with friends.

  • Alyssa Sutton

    Alyssa has been with AbleKids since the beginning of 2024 after completing work experience with us through Holland Street School.

    Alyssa is a very loved and valuable addition to the AbleKids team helping out all our staff members.

    She has saved her salary and added a new member to her family, with Cooper the French bulldog.

  • Casandra Unhehaun - Business Manager

    Casandra Unbehaun

    Business Manager

    Cas has over 20 years of entrepreneurial and management experience. At AbleKids Casandra oversees the business operations and supports the team to meet goals and work cohesively. She is a great asset to the team. Outside of work Casandra enjoys the beach, family and reading.

  • Kate Bailey - AbleKids Client Manager

    Kate Bailey

    Client Relations Manager

    Kate joined AbleKids in 2021. She is responsible for the intake, scheduling of appointments and being a dedicated point of contact for clients. Kate is usually the first point of contact for new clients.

    She was previously a registered nurse, working for 9 years at both Geraldton Hospital and SJOG Geraldton.

    Kate was born and raised in Geraldton and enjoys spending time at the beautiful beaches along our coastline with her family.

  • Anett Nuttall

    Administration and Scheduling Officer 

    Anett has recently joined our team and is working as a scheduling officer and as an administration assistant.

    She is originally from Germany and has moved to Geraldton from South Australia to enjoy our coastal lifestyle.

    Anett has a background in early childhood education and administration. She enjoys camping, 4WD, the beach and travelling.
